The Falling Leaves

The time of the falling leaves has come again. Once more in our morning walk we tread upon carpets of gold and crimson, of brown and bronze, woven by the winds or the rains out of these delicate textures while we slept.

APRIL doesn’t that sound just totally wonderful!!

March may hold the official vernal equinox but when the page is turned to April it really must be spring here in the Northern Hemisphere. For many folks it was another long, cold, snowy winter and the promise of warming sun and spring flowers makes the winter months all worthwhile.

April is represented by the daisy, which symbolizes innocence and the sweet pea as well as the white lily; the gemstone is the diamond. The zodiac signs of Aries, March 21st to April 19th and Taurus, April 20th to May 20th

Daffodils, light rains, crocus, nesting birds, new farm babies, starting garden seeds, lighter sweaters and jackets, sun that actually warms and is not purely decorative in the sky – all these things are sure signs of spring and the month of April.

April sees its share of holidays and traditions – April Fool’s Day, Passover, Easter, Earth Day.

No one knows for certain how April got its name, but it may have come from the Latin word ‘aperire’ which means ‘to open’. April is, after all, the month when in the northern hemisphere buds begin to open and things start to grow again after the winter.

St. Patrick’s Day – March 17th When There’s A Touch of Irish in Us All

Just the mere mention of shamrocks and shillelaghs and you know right away we are talking about Ireland and St. Patrick’s Day. There is something about St. Patrick’s Day that makes us all yearn to be Irish if only for a day.

Perhaps it’s the love of green or believing in the Luck of the Irish and that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the lure of the lilt of Irish laughter or the thought of drinking a cold green beer. Whatever the reason you can always enjoy a good Irish Blessing and some fine Irish treasures.

The time of the falling leaves has come again. Once more in our morning walk we tread upon carpets of gold and crimson, of brown and bronze, woven by the winds or the rains out of these delicate textures while we slept.

How beautifully the leaves grow old! How full of light and color are their last days!

There are exceptions, of course. The leaves of most of the fruit-trees fade and wither and fall ingloriously. They bequeath their heritage of color to their fruit. Upon it they lavish the hues which other trees lavish upon their leaves….

But in October what a feast to the eye our woods and groves present! The whole body of the air seems enriched by their calm, slow radiance. They are giving back the light they have been absorbing from the sun all summer.
