2018 Gift Guide – FOR YOUR TREE

blue glass balls

The Christmas tree was traditionally decorated with “roses made of colored paper, apples, wafers, tinsel and sweetmeats”. In the 18th century, it began to be illuminated by candles, which were ultimately replaced by lights after the advent of electrification.  Today, there is a wide variety of traditional ornaments, such as garlands, tinsel, balls candy canes etc.  An angel or star might be placed atop the tree to represent the Angel Gabriel or the Star of Bethlehem.  Edible items such as gingerbread, chocolate and other sweets are also popular and are tied to or hung from the tree’s branches with ribbons.

January Blues

january blue bench

This is that time of year when we may start to feel the January Blues.  According to the Urban Dictionary, January Blues are defined as follows

This is the funk that you enter when the holiday season is over. It starts on January 2nd and often lasts until February 1st.   It is an unpleasant time because the holiday season is over, spring is still a ways off, the weather is cold and the only movies are lousy January movies.”

January blues are a real thing, and it can be caused by a number of different things. It is different to Seasonal Affective Disorder, which is brought on by a lack of sunlight.   January can make even the most energetic of us feel down in the dumps.  Cold, dreary weather, lack of sleep and too much food and drink leave us feeling sluggish and overweight.

But there are things we can do to brighten our mood and here the FMNDDTeam on Etsy offers up some wonderful BLUE items to lift your spirits and mood.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Depression is a serious issue and not one we ever want to make light of.  If you or someone you know is suffering from depression, say something, reach out and seek help, do not suffer alone.  Talk to a doctor or a friend, do not suffer in silence, help is there for you.
